Happy New Week,
I hope you had a Merry Christmas. This is the last newsletter of 2021, can you believe it?
Before the New Year starts, there are a few things we should do to start the new year the best way possible. It is important to start as you mean to go on. Here are the five things:
1. Declutter your home, workspace, and life:
Every year we take on unnecessary baggage into the new year. Excessive clutter can distract us, weigh us down, and if not careful invite chaos into our lives. Start by decluttering your environment, get rid of all the things that you haven’t used in a long time and probably won’t use in the future. Declutter your phone, delete all the unnecessary apps, open tabs, emails, messages, etc. Another thing I would recommend is turning off unnecessary notifications, this will help with avoiding distractions. By setting a little time before the New Year to declutter, you’ll reap the rewards of reduced stress, and a more organised and productive year.
2. Celebrate your victories
It is important to celebrate your victories. Even if it seems like you haven’t achieved much, you’d be surprised how much you have achieved if you put some time in to reflect. Be proud of all you’ve achieved, big or small. Most importantly be grateful that you made it to the end of the year, that’s a huge achievement on its own. Also, make note of all the other things you are grateful for. Practicing gratitude will help you start the new year with a positive outlook.
3. Create your 2022 vision board
It is important to envision what you want for the new year and to create visual cues to remind yourself. Creating a vision board forces you to make the time to sit and think about what it is you want from the new year. I usually make my vision board using canva and then save it as my desktop background so I can see it frequently. Putting it somewhere extremely visible makes it a daily visual reminder of your dreams and goals.
4. Set your goals and create an action plan
As mentioned in last week's newsletter, put some time into thinking about the important things you want to achieve next year and how you’re going to achieve them. Have a few specific goals that you’re going to be working towards. Break those goals down into small actionable steps. This will help you have a clear sense of direction in the new year and help you stay focused. Without specific goals, it is hard to measure any progress.
5. Write your future self a letter
Two years ago I started writing myself a letter to read at the end of every year. It’s a letter to my future self saying all the things I achieved in that new year. My letter is made up of me answering questions such as:
How did my 2022 go?
What lessons I learnt in 2022?
What goals have I achieved in 2022?
Who helped me along the way?
What’s important to me?
Am I happy?
What special things I did in 2022?
I enjoy writing to future me because it is me speaking all the things I want to achieve into existence. It is surreal looking back at all the things I said I was going to accomplish the year before, even if I did or didn’t accomplish it is still a great feeling looking back at where my head was the year before. Like I said last week, the Hustle Smart Productivity Planner is designed to help you maximise your productivity next year. I only designed a limited amount this year, so get yours while they’re still available.
I just want to say thank you to everyone who has been consistently reading my newsletter this year and all the support, it is much appreciated. I wish you all a fruitful and productive new year. See you all in 2022!
