This week's newsletter is a round up of all interesting things that's happened over the last week or so...
Happy new week!
So many exciting things have happened in the world of sports and apparel over the last week that I can’t pick one to dive into so here’s a round-up of four interesting things I’ve seen in the last week.
Well Done to England’s Lionesses
Despite their incredible effort, England’s Lionesses missed out on glory at the Women's World Cup after being beaten 1-0 by Spain. What the Lionesses are doing for women’s football in this country is great to see. They united a whole nation once again and are breaking down barriers for more to follow. Also, shout out to Mary Earps she’s been remarkable all tournament, she took the Golden Glove prize for the most clean sheets at the World Cup. There’s been a huge uproar with Nike not selling her jerseys potentially due to fear of not selling enough jerseys. After another spectacular performance, demand for her jerseys is definitely rising which makes a stronger case for Nike to release her jersey for the public to buy.
Speaking of Jerseys….
Corteiz unveils Carnival Kit
London-based streetwear powerhouse, Corteiz, has just presented its latest drop — an all-new football jersey in celebration of Notting Hill Carnival. Notting Hill Carnival is the world’s second-biggest party, taking over the streets of West London every August bank holiday weekend. With Corteiz being a brand that’s part of the culture, this latest drop is another testimony to how in tune they are with London’s culture scene.
Skechers make football boots now?
Skechers has now entered the football world launching its first football boots and having Harry Kane as its brand ambassador. As part of the partnership, Kane will be at the forefront of the brand’s first football boots launching in the UK and Europe in September. Harry will be wearing the new sketchers boots on the pitch and appear in a multiplatform marketing campaign as a brand ambassador. Kane’s influence as a brand ambassador is still up for debate however, his reach goes far and wide. Having recently moved to FC Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur, and still England’s captain, the Sketchers boots will be seen on Kane by many eyes.
Neymar’s Jawdropping Saudi Deal
The Saudi league has been snapping up all the top-class players. Neymar is the latest star to leave Europe for Saudi Arabia, joining Al Hilal on a reported $300 million contract after the club. According to French outlet FootMercato, included in that eye-watering sum is a £70,000 bonus for every win the Riyadh-based team collects, as well as £430,000 for every post or story he puts on social media that promotes Saudi Arabia. The remarkable contract also includes a private plane for him to jet around the globe on, as well as a lavish house for himself and his pregnant girlfriend Bruna Biancardi that is accompanied with a raft of housekeepers and support staff. Forget Project Mbappe, Project Saudi might be the next move!
