Paid Ads Vs Organic Ads
Hi all,
In the last three newsletters I’ve focused heavily on paid advertising so this week I want to touch on organic marketing as this comes at no costs to business owners which makes it much easier to implement.
What is organic marketing?
Organic marketing is all about generating results through your creativity and time. Organic marketing is engaging with clients naturally without having to pay to acquire them. Brands participate in organic marketing when taking advantage of social networking sites and online search engines.
Examples of organic marketing:
Social media giveaways- recently we’ve seen a massive increase in social media giveaway campaigns. For example, see below results of Mollys Mae’s 8K giveaway.
Your giveaway does not have to be this size in terms of what the winner gets but a giveaway such as a free service, a free product etc. You can generate a lot of traction just through your friends and family entering and prompting their friends and family to enter too.
This will increase your followers and engagement. A tip I do recommend is to have a way to capture emails, for example, including people subscribing to your mailing list as part of the giveaway requirements, this will help you keep prospects longer as it’s very easy to unfollow once the giveaway is done.
Email Marketing
Create or improve your email marketing strategy. Consider implementing calls to actions that engage your customers in immediate ways. This works if you’re selling a product, service or content for your readers to enjoy. Be consistent with your email marketing, make a decision if you’re writing once a week, every other week or once a month. Your subscribers will notice the consistency.
Social media relationships
Develop social media relationships with similar businesses… If you are a make up artist or hairstylist specialising in bridal hair and make up, make relationships with wedding inspiration pages, videographers, photographers. Building genuine relationships will help you bring more customers in through referrals or even featuring on their pages and being tagged. Like and share their posts, sometimes a simple reshare on their story could lead to a new client finding you.
Content marketing
You gain brand awareness by putting out content your audience will engage with. Content around their needs, concerns and pains. Building a brand on social media is more than just marketing your products or services. It’s building trust with your customers.
User-generated content
This is any form of content such as images, texts, videos, that has been posted by your clients on social media. Your customers will always be your most effective marketers. Create an environment where customers will freely make content. You can do this through; having great packaging that will make them post and tag you, starting a # trend and posting the ‘best looks' on your feed or having users blog or vlog about your product and how its changed their lives. This builds social trust as other people can vouch for your product or service.
These are all organic marketing strategies you can implement. One last tip is to be multiplatform, even if you get most of your engagement on Instagram, still put out content on Twitter, Tiktok, Snapchat etc. Make sure the content you put out matches your audience on these platforms. For example, I’ve found that with my podcast, our Instagram followers prefer useful content and tips in a form of infographics, not so much motivational quotes. Whereas on Twitter they prefer the motivational quotes or relatable tweets that articulates their mood, they also like useful content but in the form of threads rather than an image. It’s important to observe how your audience reacts to different types of content and double down on the content they engage with the most.
I hope this was helpful and you see a few strategies you can use. As always feel free to drop me an email if you have any questions or want me to expand on any points.
