Think Big, Start Small...
Every year, many people start out with drastic New Year Resolutions but did you know about 90% of them give up by January 14th, if you want to win your year, here's how...
Happy New Year!
These last few weeks I’ve been thinking, how do I actually make 2023 my best year so far? To make it my best year yet I need to have a clearer understanding of what my best year looks like. Is it to make more money, travel more, or spend more time with family and friends? Whatever it is, I need to have a clear understanding of what it is and what it’ll take for me to get there. Alongside “No”, “intentional” is my word for 2023. Once you set your intention for the year, it’s easier to work towards it.
“Going fast isn’t always advantageous when you’re going the wrong direction.”
An intentional focus gives you greater clarity around what you want and takes the guesswork out of where you should invest your time and mind. When you’re living without intention, you’re living life on autopilot. This means you’re letting life pass you by, rather than being in the driver's seat and taking control of your life. To have your best year, you have to take control of your year and be intentional about what you want out of your year because before you know it, it’ll be 31st December 2023.
“The best way to predict the future is to create it.” Abraham Lincoln
When it comes to New Year resolutions or goals, we tend to set big drastic goals such as I’m going to lose X amount of weight, I’m going to cut out X, I'm going to make X amount, etc. Rather than focusing only on the results, I believe it’s always best to break down your goals and focus more on the process. Instead of having a goal of losing X amount of pounds, a goal such as “I’m going to go to the gym 3 times a week” is easier to put into practice and will make you achieve your goal of losing X amount of weight.
When you try and make a radical change, it’s hard to maintain it all year round. Within the first week, or month(s), you’ll find yourself keeping up but however further down the line it’s hard to keep that same energy, and you might find yourself slipping back into your old ways. Make gradual changes instead. When you look back at the end of this year, you’ll find that you’ve made a lot of progress and developed good healthy habits.
Though it's important to focus on the process rather than the destination, only the right processes bring the right results. Even though we focus on processes, we could be working on the wrong process which means we won’t get our desired results. Before committing to a process, explore, try it out and make sure it’s the right process that will get you the results you want.
“Working hard is overrated. Choosing what to work on and who to work on it with is underrated.” Naval.
Change happens one step at a time. Try not to focus too much on the big picture. Focus on the small steps that’ll get you where you want to be at the end of this year. We like to think that big steps or big dramatic changes will produce big results. A small percentage of the time this may be true, or more logical, however, it’s very rare and difficult to implement. Smaller steps are more doable both for our minds and for our bodies.
Wishing you all a great 2023!
