Hi all,
Firstly I want to say thank you all for subscribing. A little info about me, I run a digital marketing agency that specialises in helping businesses increase their online presence and reach their full potential. I am also a co-host of an entrepreneurial and mindset focused podcast called ‘Hustle Smart’.
This newsletter is a continuation of a tweet I posted last week on Twitter “If you’re a business and you’re only advertising on social media. You’re leaving a lot of money on the table…” This tweet led to a lot of enquiries which prompted me to think of a way to expand further on what I meant as well as cover other methods of marketing outside social media marketing and also how to get better results from social media marketing.
Number one on the list is Search Engine Marketing, this is often neglected by most businesses who primarily market only on social media. Search Engine Marketing involves the promotion of your website by increasing your visibility in search engine result pages mainly through paid advertising. When Search Engine Marketing is done right you become more discoverable to people outside of your social bubble; if someone is looking for a product or service you offer your website pops up.
For a small business, it might be a bit costly but you have to invest in your business in order to grow and with a little ad budget you’ll be able to experience a good return on your investment.
You have two types of search engine marketing:
Pay-Per-Click (PPC) or Sponsored Search Results
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)
PPC is Google’s form of online advertising. You bid for words and phrases that prompt your ads to display in sponsored search results. You pay a fee every time someone clicks on one of your ads.
You have two forms of SEO; Local and Organic.
Local SEO focuses on getting your business listing to show up on Google map results, there’s no charge for clicks. Organic SEO is your website content gaining increased visibility in unpaid, nonlocal results, there’s no charge for clicks through to your website too.
To benefit from Organic SEO, you should blog with SEO in mind. This means that you’re writing about the problems your target customers are actually going through and the solutions they’re facing. To find what your customers are looking for, you use Google Trends.
If you put the keywords into Google Trends you can see how frequent people search for words or sentences which highlights there’s clearly an issue. You can help people solve these problems while integrating products from your store in the content itself. For example, if you are a personal trainer, you can write a blog post offering solutions on how to workout from home during Lockdown 2.0 and you can offer your training plan as a solution in the process.
2. Email Marketing is another digital marketing strategy based on sending emails and developing relationships with prospects and customers. Email marketing still works, trust me. To run successful email marketing campaigns, you need to create a lead magnet.
Businesses can offer some sort of exclusivity when signing up to the mail list such as a 10% discount or free delivery, only people on the mail list will have access to this. Email marketing platforms like Mailchimp or Hubspot are great for sending out marketing emails.
Tip: Make an effort to keep subscribers engaged and send them valuable information, such as how to keep your product in a good condition etc.
Do this consistently over time, and you’ll have an engaged, responsive list of people that actually enjoy hearing from you.
The best way to have digital marketing success is to adopt the mindset of the consumer. Stop giving people the hard sell, instead, aim to solve their problems through free and valuable content that is relevant to your business.
Lastly, social media is a very effective marketing tool, especially when leveraging paid ads. With paid ads, it’s important to have a system. You need to create a funnel process so when someone comes on your website you have a seamless process that will lead to a conversion (e.g a paying customer), whether it's there and then or you have a follow-up system that will lead to a conversion in the long run.
If you’re unsure about some of these points or would like me to elaborate more, feel free to send me an email at subomiodanye@hotmail.com.
I hope this has been helpful and you’ve enjoyed reading! Have a great week!
