You're one meaningful conversation away...

Happy New Week,
Earlier this week I went to a great business group lunch and a story that stuck with me was the story of a business that was struggling during Covid-19 times. One of the business owners shared that their solution was for the business owners to have 50 meaningful conversations each month. The end result was incredible, they gained an astonishing amount of business by the end of the first month.
Sometimes the answer to what you’re looking for is in a meaningful conversation. Meaningful conversations aren’t transactional. They are conversations where you enter without a set agenda in mind but leave gaining so much from it. Every conversation is an opportunity to cultivate real, human connections—whether that’s by nurturing existing relationships or creating new ones.
Tips to have meaningful conversations
Genuinely and actively listen - This does not mean simply hearing what the other person is saying. Rather, it means actively engaging, considering, and reflecting upon what that person has said and what it means. Don’t just listen to reply.
Be curious - Being curious about people and what they’re up to could open many doors. You have to want to know more about the person you’re speaking to. Go into conversations with an open mind, don’t be closed.
People also like to talk about themselves, whether it’s about a challenge they're currently facing or a recent accomplishment. If you give people the opportunity to talk about themselves, they will.
From my experience, people also love to give advice, and love it when you ask for advice as it makes them feel that you trust them and they’re worthy of giving you advice. So don’t be shy to reach out to people for a quick conversation to get advice on something or hear their story on how they got to where they are today.
Meaningful conversations create opportunities to get to know people better and build stronger relationships. In business, meaningful conversations are very necessary, it grows trust and long-term loyalty. There is so much to gain from meaningful conversations - advice, network, and opportunities. It allows you to gain fresh perspectives, you might have been looking at a challenge the wrong way and could leave the conversation with a much clearer perspective and even a solution.
